Conference Venue and Dates

The 9th International Congress of Plant Pathology will take place at the Lingotto Conference Centre in Turin, Italy from 24 to 29 August 2008.

Conference Centre

The Lingotto Conference Centre is a prestigious international centre for exhibitions and conference business. Renzo Piano’s design has made a modern polifunctional centre of the building that once was Europe’s most famous motorcar manufacturing complex.
The Conference Centre, Hotel, Exhibition Centre, Business Centre, Offices, Commercial Gallery and ample underground parking space make the Lingotto a business, confrontation and daily exchange centre for the furtherance of economic and cultural events.
On April 24 this year, Renzo Piano’s "8 Gallery" was inaugurated, containing around ninety elements including shops, restaurants, bars and a multiplex cinema (of 8,000 sqm with a seating capacity of 2,370), which make up the immense leisure and shopping centre inside the Lingotto complex. All building structures are integrated and offer operators flexible solutions for all events and visitors a welcoming and dynamic place in downtown Torino.

Conventions
The Lingotto Conference Centre is a great modern structure designed especially for conventions.
One of the building’s great courtyards houses the Auditorium. Its ceiling, stage and seats are mobile and it is fitted with an automatic system to change seat capacity from 2090 to 1901, 1 320, 990 or 495. Acoustics too are variable from an echo time of some two seconds for symphonic music to the ideal one and a half for conferences.
In this Auditorium, that normally hosts the most important orchestras in the world, a concert for all the participants to the congress will be organized, after the welcoming cocktail on Sunday August 24.
12 other interconnected and permanently equipped halls covering 22,800 square metres can accommodate 480, 210, 120, 75 and 50 persons respectively, that is 3,500 seats in all. The Conference Centre offers logistic and technological support: advanced technology, electronic and audiovisual aids, simultaneous interpretation booths and a complete information system for visitor monitoring and service.
25 computerized areas are distributed throughout the hall and side galleries and are equipped with badge printing facilities. These stations are supported by 2 servers to guarantee complete operational safety.
The whole structure is under monitoring by a control room that ensures constant check of all the Centre’s electrical and electronic safety, security and conditioning systems.
Poster areas can be set up in the Conference Centre corridors and entrance halls.

The permanently equipped rooms can be integrated as needed with modular structure meeting rooms to be arranged in the pavilions of the Exhibition Centre, with its 50,000 square metres of exhibition areas.

Access, roads and parking
The complex is not far from the Torino Porta Nuova main rail station. A 10 minute connection is guaranteed by direct bus and streetcar lines.
The Lingotto Complex is served by underground parking areas for 3,500 cars. Access and guard services are computer monitored.
A direct backstage access is also available for heavy vehicles in case of special fittings and instruments transport, besides the access ways to the private motorcar parks.
